Barcelona are reportedly on the verge of securing Marcus Rashford’s signature from Manchester United.
The England international has been pushing for a move to Camp Nou this summer, following a loan stint at Aston Villa during the latter half of last season. ..Continue Reading
Back in May, Rashford’s brother—who also acts as his agent—visited Barcelona to hold discussions with the reigning La Liga champions.
Initially, the Catalan club had focused their efforts on signing Nico Williams, who has since committed to a new deal with Athletic Bilbao, while their pursuit of Luis Díaz stalled after Liverpool rejected Bayern Munich’s sizeable offer.
According to The Athletic, Barcelona have now proposed a season-long loan for Rashford, which includes a clause to make the move permanent.
The report indicates that Manchester United have accepted the terms, submitted through intermediaries, and talks are nearing completion.
Meanwhile, Marca claims United originally requested a €50 million buyout clause, but Barcelona successfully negotiated it down to €35 million.
Earlier this summer, Rashford was spotted in Marbella and has been training solo while the rest of the United squad resumed pre-season activities.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has publicly backed the club’s interest in Rashford.
Asked about the forward in May, Flick responded: “I won’t comment on players outside my squad, but Luis Díaz and Marcus Rashford are exceptional talents. I admire them, and we’ll see what unfolds.”
Rashford is now poised to become Barça’s second summer recruit, following the activation of Joan Garcia’s €25 million release clause from Espanyol.
The squad returned to training last Sunday and will kick off their La Liga title defence on August 16 with an away fixture against Mallorca.
