Real Madrid were jeered by their home fans on Sunday after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo, ending the match with nine players on the pitch.
In his post-match comments, Alonso emphasized the need to respond in the Champions League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday night.
However, the visitors come into the game in high spirits, having secured three straight wins to narrow the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to just two points.
Even if Real Madrid overcome Man City, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague stated Alonso’s chances of remaining as Madrid manager are very slim.
He noted that Alonso joined in the summer with the intention of implementing a more modern philosophy at the club.
Nonetheless, president Florentino Perez remains unconvinced by the new direction and maintains that the club’s most successful periods came under managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane.
Balague also revealed that when Alonso took over at Bayer Leverkusen, he requested a clause allowing him to leave if any of his former clubs, or Manchester City, expressed interest in hiring him.
In addition to Real Madrid, Alonso represented Real Sociedad, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich during his distinguished playing career.
A return to Real Sociedad, currently positioned 14th in La Liga, appears unlikely to entice the Spaniard.
However, Liverpool, Bayern, and Manchester City could all become viable options if Real Madrid decide to part ways with him.
Alonso was previously linked with the Liverpool role as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp before the club appointed Arne Slot.
Despite clinching the league title in his first season and spending £450 million in the transfer market, Slot is under significant scrutiny with the Reds currently in tenth place.
The Dutchman is now the bookmakers’ leading candidate to be the next Premier League manager dismissed.
Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany is in his second year at the helm of Bundesliga titleholders Bayern Munich.
They’ve begun the season strongly with 12 wins from 13 matches, but Bayern’s leadership will expect both domestic success and a deep Champions League run.
Last year, Pep Guardiola extended his contract with Manchester City, committing to the club until 2027.
By that time, he will have led City for 11 years, and the Catalan confirmed in May that he intends to take a break from management after his departure.
While stepping into Guardiola’s shoes would be a formidable task, it is a position that would reportedly appeal to Alonso.
