On Saturday evening, after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road, Salah made headlines across the Premier League by voicing his discontent regarding his current role. ..Continue Reading
The 33-year-old was omitted from Liverpool’s starting lineup for the third match in a row and found himself in the rare position of remaining on the bench throughout.
After acknowledging the away supporters, Salah gave an uncommon interview in the mixed zone, using the moment to express his thoughts.
Unfiltered and direct, while a visibly tense press officer looked on, Salah said it “seems like the club has thrown me under the bus” and added that “someone wanted me to get all of the blame”.
Salah, who penned a fresh two-year extension in the summer after playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s title triumph, also stated that he and Arne Slot now “don’t have any relationship”.
The forward was excluded from the squad traveling to face Inter Milan in the Champions League, though it remains uncertain if additional disciplinary action will follow.
Salah previously shared a close bond with Klopp, despite a heated sideline exchange during a clash with West Ham shortly before the manager’s exit.
Still, Klopp was known for his firm leadership style, and during a candid appearance on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett, he shared how he once disciplined a disgruntled player who had posted and then deleted a social media message.
He chose to address the issue publicly in the dressing room to make a point, which proved effective.
“We had a situation that a player texted or posted something at night and deleted it, but I still became aware of it,” Klopp explained.
“So, not that I read it but people told me, ‘Oh, last night this and that happened.’ ‘When?’ ‘Three o’clock.’
“What I do in these situations, even deleted, I go in the dressing room, say ‘last night, this and this happened, got deleted, I know what’s there, but maybe you want to tell everybody.”
He continued: “Yeah, that’s nice. The thing is, I don’t go for him to say, ‘How could you write that?’ I just say, ‘Somebody told me, so I know it.
“Not really important, but come on, tell the whole team what you wanted to say…
“I don’t like to bring people into that situation, but I think that’s a deserved punishment for something like that.
“And the effect was, nobody ever did it again.”
Salah, who has netted 250 goals for Liverpool, remains under contract at Anfield until 2027.
After the upcoming match against Brighton, he will be unavailable for selection for an extended spell as he prepares to lead Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
