Following a lengthy period of uncertainty, Rashford finalized his loan switch from Manchester United to Barcelona on Wednesday night, receiving the number 14 jersey from club president Joan Laporta. ..Continue Reading
The striker has already been introduced to head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco during a visit to the Ciutat Esportiva training facility on Monday, and is expected to link up with the squad for their upcoming tour of Asia
Upon arriving at Camp Nou, Rashford shared his enthusiasm about joining the club and starting a new chapter in his career.
“It’s a club where dreams come true,” he said. “They win big prizes and what the club stands for really means a lot to me. It feels like I’m at home and it’s a big factor in my choice to come here. It’s a family club and people are comfortable here.”
The England star would go on to claim that Barcelona is “a good place for good players to showcase their skills” but a report from Spanish publication El Nacional suggests his move has not gone well with everyone.
In fact, teenage sensation Lamine Yamal believes he has been ‘misled’ by Joan Laporta and Deco after being ‘assured’ Nico Williams was ‘the only option’ they were considering to improve their attack.
The report goes on to claim: “When he signed his contract extension with Barca over a month ago, one of his requests was to sign his close friend, taking advantage of his release clause valued at just €58 million.”
Yamal was reportedly thrilled at the idea of teaming up with Nico Williams, but that possibility vanished when the Spanish winger committed to Athletic Bilbao with a new eight-year deal.
Barcelona eventually secured Marcus Rashford on loan, a transfer widely regarded as a smart acquisition by the club.
However, according to El Nacional, Yamal is not on board with that sentiment—he’s voiced frustration, feeling the club didn’t exhaust all options to sign Williams.
“Lamine knew nothing about Rashford’s signing,” the outlet adds. “Lamine has also expressed his anger to Laporta and Deco for not having informed him at any time of the conversations with Rashford, nor having asked his opinion.”
It is also said that Yamal wants to be involved in every decision that’s made at the club, just like Lionel Messi did during his spell with the club.
